ooopsie

My veggies have been coming in boxes packed with biodegradable packing peanuts. The first box came with a flyer that said, "Please water these into your lawn!" The second box didn't come with the same flyer, but I figured they figured I was a seasoned veggie-box opener and therefore, saved the flyer paper. I, of course, made a big show of dumping the peanuts off the front porch. The Boy, of course, was not thrilled but I assured him sweetly and with a Gardener's Knowledge they would quickly disappear in the hurricane that was approaching. I seem to have been wrong. That's only ever happened one other time in my life. Thank you for sharing this moment with me.

In the midst of the hurricanes this weekend, I was able to check a few things off my I Promise List. Love that.

First: Way back when, I asked all of you to start taking a look at etsy and other home-grown crafters. I promised you a little somethin'-somethin' if you signed up... and then I ran and hid for 6 months. Alas, I have not forgotten you! I'm making you veggie bags, and here is the mock-up. A cotton, knit bag that stretches like crazy and is perfect for throwing in 2 green peppers, 1 cucumber, a head of lettuce, and 4 sand toys. I need to add on the handles, obviously, but I'm pretty happy with this very rough version. It's my first "very own" pattern. I plan to make three of these and have a random drawing for them. The rest of you lovely people who signed up will receive a beaded flower that is my go-to "I love you gift." And you can give it away. It won't hurt my feelings. Much.

Second: Meet Cortney and Chelsey. Cort's drawin' me some animals and Chels sent me GOBS of fabric and both are just as lovely as could be. For their services, I promised to make them aprons. I used the pattern found here and left off the ties and darts... less 1950s and more art-class smock-ish. Why these took me so long to get these started I have no idea, but I love them. All told, it took about an hour of sewing for 2 aprons. Awesome. I'll be randomly drawing for one of these babies, too, out of the Etsy list. It's a great, simple little smock with a button and pockets. So lovely. Chels, I was feelin' the whole English-rose-Austen thing for you. Cort, it was sass all the way.

I got to use my new label stamp!
And here's a picture of my mousey face for Tracy.
Wow. Those aprons are very wrinkled.

Don'tcha love my little helper?

Oh, hey- we have an evaluation scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30am with a physical therapist and an Early On rep. Think of us, if you remember. We've already improved our walking in the last week, and I expect it to go well. I do need to clean. Those packing peanuts are everywhere.

Now on to more Promise List... after I read your Name Stories again from last Monday. Man, do I love me some family history! I'm still laughing at Bec's, "No- I couldn't stand that woman." Classic.

And PS: If you'd like to be in on the drawings (which will happen the first week in July), just leave me a note below! You can play... you just have to say hello! We'll call it the TexasNorth Reader Appreciation Raffle. I already have you down if you commented way back when. Up for grabs: 3 cotton veggie bags, 1 smock, and happy little flowers for giving or for keeping.

First, HOORAY for my apron! I love it, Love it, LOVE IT! I've been doodlin' animals for you all this time, but have been very slack on posting the pictures for your perusal, I will make that my extra special weekly project on my priorities list so you'll have MORE fun things to work on when it storms ;)

Second, LOVE the veggie bags as well, look at you with your own pattern! Totally awesome, if I don't win I will be commissioning one for sure anyway!

Third and most important, we will be thinking of you guys tomorrow, I just KNOW that the evaluation will go well and your stubborn little pirate will be a-okay.

Rock on wit' yo bad selfs, Mulders.

Every time I see your stuff I wish I were 1/64th as creative. I'm not. Although I did make quite a bang-up paper chain the other day with construction paper strips and a glue stick. Woo hoo!!

Have you ever worked with mexican oil cloth?

Good luck tomorrow. You will not be alone.

I will be happy to think of y'all at 9:30 tomorrow, because for one, I love you, and for two, it sure beats anything that's going to be happening in my staff meeting!

Oh, I got a bike! Once Josh has one we can go on our ice cream adventure!

I'll get to complimenting your smock tops in a minute, but first I have to wipe the tears from my eyes while I finish laughing about your packing peanuts. Coulda happened to anybody.. . .really. Your aprons are fantastic. The Reader Appreciation Raffle is an inspired idea. And cute hair.

I need to hear more about this mexican oil cloth. Does it come with Sangria?

And cute hair... gosh, I've waited all my life to hear that. After years of frizz and bad decisions, I think I am finaly there. Thank you, those of you who stuck by me through high school and freshman year in college. Thank you.

i thought that the only other time you had been wrong before was when you thought you had been wrong before. :-)

KatieKate said...

It's true. I THOUGHT I had been wrong before, but that was a mistake. True. True true true.

Jimmy said...

But maybe you were wrong before about being wrong before about being wrong before or something like that. Cause you and I are never wrong.
That the way I feel and I'm sticking to it.

Janna said...

so i want to know if the packing peanuts are still there or if a.) they are blowing about or b.) curt couldn't stand it and collected them or kindly requested that you collect them.

and, of course, i would love it if you would put me in your raffle. who doesn't love a raffle??

KatieKate said...

Oh, I picked them up. Every single last one of them.

They are deceivingly difficult to retrieve over a 40-acre span.

But I am a better person for it.
